In general, Antam’s mining operations have a direct impact on the presence of disturbed land, which ultimately threatens biodiversity. Hence, the Company consistently puts in efforts to rehabilitate the land through reclamation. In 2011, the area of disturbed land reached 32.19 hectares and by the end of 2011, the accumulated area of disturbed land was 5,323 hectares. The area of reclaimed land reached 181 hectares, with accumulated total area was 4,617 hectares or 86.74% of disturbed land that has been able to be rehabiltated through reclamation.

In accordance with the approved master plan, until the end of 2011 Antam involved local community to plant 356,973 endemic local plants in 700 hectares area of the TNGHS area, around UBPE Pongkor. Another monitoring that was conducted in the UBPE Pongkor area also found several other bioresources, including bido snake eagle, black eagle and several species of orchids and 39 medicinal plants. This fact has convinced the Company to follow up plan and activities of biodiversity conservation development.

Biodiversity awareness is also implemented through support for One Billion Indonesian Trees National Program (OBIT) initiated by the Government. Total number of trees that have been planted by the end of the reporting period reached 1,067,122 trees spread across various locations. In a development project for Biodiversity Conservation Center (PKKH), Antam works with PT Rimbawan Bangun Lestari, a part of the Sustainable Management Group managed to formulate some new breakthrough, which has now been proven effective to develop a conservation model based on investment management.
