Biodiversity

As a mining company that correlates with land and forest, ANTAM has to maintain biodiversity, especially for ecosystem flora and fauna surrounding the operational area.

Biodiversity management signifies in each business unit and applying the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL) and PROPER requirements. All business units have a biodiversity management plan that operates consistently according to the document.

ANTAM handles several initiatives to preserve animals, such as parrots, white starlings, napoleon fish, and komodo. Although ANTAM’s operational area is not directly in contact with komodo, ANTAM has the responsibility to preserve the endangered species of Indonesian animals.

Some of ANTAM’s operational areas remain or near to protected areas, specifically in the Gold Mining Business Unit and North Maluku Nickel Mining Business Unit. In Gold Mining Business Unit, there is a section of the area in the Other Use Area (APL) and protected forest nearby Mount Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS). ANTAM’s operations in Gold Mining Business Unit have acquired licenses from the government, particularly the Forest Permit Area (IPPKH) and government Decree of the Minister of Forestry & Environment No. SK 413/Menhut-II/2013 concerning Borrow and Use of Forest Areas (IPPKH) permits for the 22.38 hectares of gold and other minerals operations area through underground mining in Bogor Regency, West Java. Whereas North Maluku Nickel Mining Business Unit is within the 789.95 hectares protected forest area on Gee Island and Pakal Island, as well as Mornopo 1A and 2.
